Farmhouse extension and project management, North Norfolk
The clients brief for this property was to extend the farmhouse to enlarge the kitchen to include an open plan dining area, whilst also adding an additional bedroom to the first floor. The ground floor rooms were also re-configured to incorporate a boot room, w/c and pantry.
Usually the planning department will want the roof height of an extension to be subservient to the existing roof height. However, I was able to persuade them that elongating the existing slate roof and using close matching bricks the house would keep it’s Georgian proportions. By stripping the whole roof and recovering it with new welsh slate and stepping back the extension brickwork back from the existing house the extension blends in well with the existing house; and makes it appear that it had always been there.
As well as the proposed floor plans and elevations, I also put together the planning application and did the building regulations drawings/application for this project. I also project managed the extension and alterations for the client , working closely with the individual subcontractors; something I am able to do having worked as a site manager for a local building firm. I can recommend many of the trades used on this project and the client was especially pleased with the handmade kitchen made by Bryan Glegg.
